Aerosmith music from another dimension review

Thanks to a reunion with producer Jack Douglas, who worked on some of the band's best albums in the '70s and '80s, the classic Aerosmith sound is intact in both its rock and power ballad forms. Solid, but a notch below, are the Carrie Underwood-Tyler duet Can't Stop Loving You, where the twang doesn't quite mesh with the tang What Could Have Been Love, a poppy ballad that belongs on a summer chick-flick soundtrack the hard-boogeying Street Jesus and Luv XXX, with Julian Lennon on backing vocals. Prospects for radio airplay may be iffy (which says more about today's age-biased programmers than the quality of the music), but several numbers could (and have) become in-concert faves: Lover Alot, a balls-to-the-wall rocker built around Tom Hamilton's pounding bass line Joe Perry's seven-minute guitar showcase Out Go the Lights Oh Yeah, with its Jumpin' Jack Flash-like riffs and power ballads Closer and the Diane Warren-penned We All Fall Down, on which Steven Tyler offers a how-to to his former American Idol-ators. It's just 15 songs that this often-dysfunctional but always sturdy-sounding 42-year-old band will wedge in between the hits as it continues its Global Warming tour.

RECORD REVIEW: Aerosmith 'Music From Another Dimen.Make no mistake, this is product, pure and simple.ДЄerosmith's Music From Another Dimension! (*** out of four, out Tuesday), the band's first studio album of original material since 2001's Just Push Play, isn't some laboriously constructed decade-in-the-making opus or, title notwithstanding, a daring artistic statement.

And for that, the fellas deserve awesome bear hugs! It ain't Rocks, but thank goodness it ain't Just Push Play either.

In sum, Music From Another Dimension! bridges the gap successfully between theВ 'slutty' Aerosmith and the 'prom queen' Aerosmith.

Despite the awkward-fitting, minute-long intro and a very slight hint of Emmentaler, this one comes the closest to recapturing Aeromith's early gritty coolness. Just relax and stop trying so hard.Д«ut it's the Tyler / Perry / Whitford collective effort, 'Street Jesus' that is perhaps the record's crowning jewel. You're the band that wrote 'Lick and a Promise,' 'Uncle Salty' and 'Lord of the Thighs'В - you're already cool. And had it been cut in 1975 or '76, before the Desmond Child / John Kalodner mandated band castration,В 'Another Last Goodbye' might have been trulyВ epic - in the vein of 'You See Me Crying' or 'Home Tonight.' But in 2012 it falls flat. Less compelling tracks include the Tyler, Frederiksen, Brad Whitford, Joey Kramer, Tom Hamilton offering 'Beautiful,' and 'We Fall Down' - a perfect example of Aerosmith simply trying too darn hard toВ still be cool. Given that the country music audience is the last remaining contingent still embracing humans who actually sing and play instruments, these two tracksВ certainly exemplify Walmart-like marketing savvy - but it's a concept that would have been unthinkable during the band's 'slutty' era. Performed with Carrie Underwood, 'Can't Stop Loving You' is also a tremendous song. And although it's a well-written heartache anthem, the vocal could have just as easily been cut by any number of current country crooners. However, the formulaic charm is now wearing thin. Written by Tyler, Perry and Jim Vallance, the lead single 'Legendary Child' is edgy, fun and possesses considerably less cheese factor than most of Aerosmith's modern day chartbusters.ДЇollowing the tried and true 'Crazy, Amazing, Crying' blueprint that brought the band incredible success during the '90s, 'What Could Have Been Love' is almostВ great.

Joe Perry's 'Oh Yeah' and the Tyler / Perry collaborationВ 'Out Go the Lights' are both fabulously soulful -В stanky andВ funky ditties reminiscent of the 'slutty' Aerosmith - rock solid tracks that also serveВ asВ mighty highlights. 'Luv XXX' is a catchy, high energy Toxic Twins opener - one of the record's best. In fact, it likely would have been aВ snappy 40-minute record, but clocking in at over 60 minutes, it gets a bit bogged down along the way. More of a group songwriting effort than their last couple of records, Music From Another Dimension! offers abundant killers and fillers. Longtime Aerosmith producer Jack Douglas returns to join forces with Steven Tyler, Joe Perry and Marti Frederiksen - resulting in their most enticingВ effort since 1993's Get a Grip. Hmm -В at leastВ the band still recognizes the undeniable streetВ value of cool.В But cool doesn't make your BMW payment - henceВ we're not likely to everВ get another Toys in the Attic. It's funny that despite the enormous success achieved by theВ 'prom queen' Aerosmith over the last 25В years, the band typically makes comparisons only to theВ 'slutty' Aerosmith records when hyping an upcoming release.
